Stair Envy

A few weeks ago my husband went along with my son's class on the second grade field trip to the pumpkin patch.

A new friend and my son were talking about getting together to play at each other's house for the first time.

Overheard by my husband on the way to the field trip:

Lil Expert: "Do you have stairs at your house?"

Friend: "No."

Friend: "Do you have stairs at your house?"

Lil Expert: "No."

Lil Expert: "I wish we had stairs at our house. I LOVE a house with stairs."

Friend: "So do I!"

The two boys have since played at each other's houses a few times and formed a strong new friendship even without the stairs!!

That is so cute!

I wonder what the spring of such desires is? When I was a child, I wanted an attic bedroom with sloping walls, a cozy window seat for reading, and to live in a tiny cottage surrounded by flowers and gardens. I wonder if that desire came from all the fairy tales I was reading?

Well, it sounds like the conversation about wanting a house with stairs was the perfect ice-breaker. :)

That's really cool! I love how kids can even become friends based on things they don't have or do.

Exactly the same as us adults. :-)

That is too funny! I marvel at what goes through children's minds and 90% of it we'll never know about.

Thanks for sharing your story with us!

Would love to know where that came from? Commonalities are always great at the beginning of a relationship, aren't they :):) Very cute! I love eavesdropping on kids conversations!

Aww, I love that pic. They certainly do look like pals :)

I definitely wished we had stairs growing up as well. Something so adventurous about sliding down them :)

We can learn a lot from children. Adults pick friends based on political views, religious preferences etc... when we should just be asking, "do you have stairs at your house?". I loved this post!

if adults can also form friendships with simple conversations as such, this would definitely be a better world :)
